Awareness talks

Very few people have heard of aphasia yet it affects 250,000 people in the UK. This is a problem for people with aphasia as the public does not understand its impact or how to make the necessary changes that will include them in conversations and decisions.

Speakeasy works to increase the awareness of aphasia. We link with local newspapers to highlight the challenges and take opportunities to inform people when we can. In addition we have a public awareness talk which is delivered mostly by people who have aphasia.

We deliver our talk to community groups and businesses; previous talks have been for such clubs as rotary, lions, probus, townswomens guild, womens institutes, church groups, schools, rehabilitation teams, stroke units and other charities. Our talk has been developed over the last six years and is available for any community groups in the area. It lasts between forty minutes to an hour and is visually supported with a projected slide show (we bring our own equipment).

“It was fantastic, I learned so much. It was so amazing and inspiring that these people could stand up in front of an audience and tell us about aphasia”

Please contact us if you know of anyone who would like to arrange a talk.
